Conference topics and themesIn recent years, many countries broke out a series of catastrophes that resulted huge casualties and property losses. That makes the human capacity to cope with disaster meet with new challenges. With the rapid economic development, human should build security and sustainable developing society. We must constantly strengthen the capacity of dealing with all kinds of unpredicted disasters; otherwise all the social wealth created by peoples of hard work will be destroyed in the disaster. Therefore, strengthening the building capacity to coping with disasters becomes a significant theme concentrated by both China and international society, becomes an important assignment to improve the disaster risk management all over the world. The Chinese successful experiences of coping with the Wenchuan earthquake are the common treasure of the people of all over the world. The IDRC Chengdu 2009 China will sum up successful experiences of different countries on treating disaster risk in recent years, particularly on the base of Chinese people’s successful experiences coping with “5.12 ” Wenchuan Earthquake, mobilize the international society to promote the building of capacity to respond to sudden disasters, actively make use of integrated, multidisciplinary approach to effectively reduce the growing disaster risk of contemporary human society has to faces, and by constructing the strategic platform for administration scholars, policy makers, community organizations and individuals to communicate, apply the successful experience, which is accumulated by different nations on alleviating disaster risk, to further benefit human society. According to the goals of IDRC Chengdu 2009 China, the topics of the conference will focus on “Wenchuan earthquake, the path forward - capacity building is the key for the integrated disaster and risk management and for sustainable development”, and invite international experts to investigate such topics as followings: (1) The Wenchuan Earthquake response and the capacity building of integrated disaster reduction and mitigation; (2) The recovery construction experience of the Wenchuan Earthquake and the implementation of the disaster mitigation strategy; (3) Sustainable development and integrated disaster risk management; (4) Climate change adaptation strategies; (5) Risk management and control of important infrastructure; (6) Catastrophe response mechanism and the building of large-scale professional rescue forces; (7) Prevention and control of public health emergencies; (8) Risk analysis of city high dangerous source and alleviation strategies; (9) Disaster risk prevention of rural areas and the safety community construction; (10) Psychological relief and crisis intervention after disasters; (11) Disaster culture, disaster insurance and the alleviation technologies application, etc. |
